A big Building--and the Trews

Yesterday I was walking in downtown Charlottetown, when I heard my voice. It was booming from above. It's pretty wierd to hear yourself as you are walking down the street. Construction guys were listening to K-ROCK 105.5...while I was voicetracked.

The Trews are in town for the East Coast Music Awards. K-ROCK has the VIP limo....we are picking up the bands and having some fun, and doing interviews.

The brothers, John Angus and Colin....are very handsome. :) Today I am working all day, ECMA reception at 5, and then I'm at a bar for and ECMA show---I'm not sure if I will be sleeping until next week. I love this job!

Sarah McLachlan

Crossed off the bucket list. I got to see Sarah McLachlan in Moncton earlier this week. She was a bit sick (laringytis) but she still sounded amazing.
Tomorrow I am curling in playoffs, and I plan on spending a lot of time at home! Have a great weekend!

TRX is Tough

TRX is CRAZY

This is TRX. It is the hardest workout I have encountered. It was created by a Navy Seal for the guys/gals on boats were there isn 't room for a gym. It is crazy hard and I have already seen results in my strength from it. I have been working out with Gineen at Studio 9 on Garfield Street and I have to say she is an amazing instructor (she is not paying me to say this either) and a great motivator. And I hate her most of the time I am working out.

TRX is great for the core and for strengthening your arms, shoulders, back and so on. If you get a chance...give it a try! I hate/love it!!

Canadian Music Week and a Quick Visit Home

So thrilled and thankful to be working for such a great company. This past week was Canadian Music Week in Toronto. Canadian Music week is about everything to do with music and radio. I learned so much (we had seminars put on by consultants from all over the industry) and now I have an entire new vision for K-ROCK. Fun stuff. (if you are radio geek like me) Anyways, along the way..I got to meet some really cool people. Like Nikki Sixx. Yes..and it was one of those heart hammering moments. And Jordan Knight of New Kids on the Block. Not so heart hammering but cool none the less. And I got to see Sarah McLachlan perform (I actually go to her concert next week) Hollerado performed, Ash Koley, and some other cool performers.

So now I head home and I've got some serious work to do. The cool part is I love it. :)

Another Trip out to Cavendish Beach

Jumped in the car today (it's Islander Day) and headed out to Cavendish Beach. The goal was to look for foxes (didn't see any) and instead was amazed at a)how much more snow there is at Cavendish compared to Charlottetown, b) as far as the eye could see it was frozen Ocean, and c) it was cold!

Also stopped at a bridge on the way there and took pictures of ducks. They are ring necked ducks. I had never seen them before. When they would fly away, they would make these squeaky noises. Very beautiful.

Look at the red mud on my wheel...and the frozen pattern it made

Goo Goo Dolls and some other stuff

Goo Goo Dolls concert Saturday night was great! The guys were amazing and sounded excellent.

It is snowing like crazy today. The entire province is shut down practically due to white outs. The city isn't that bad though, all the big buildings are blocking the wind.

The Scotties Tournament of Hearts starts this weekend in Charlottetown, so I am getting ready to work a whole heck of a lot, because we are covering all of the PEI games. So I will either be hanging out at the curling rink, or at the station taking calls.
I had a GREAT Valentines day. Nuff said.

And today at work I am extremely frustrated and pissed off, and yet it isn't causing my blood pressure to go too high because it's really stupid, and I just keep laughing at the following two photos. This is ParisFrances drinking out of a glass. For some reason, water out of a glass that appears to be mine is the best water ever. She is constantly sticking her head in my water glass, which I then give her hell and have to get a fresh glass cause I don't want illnesses or worms or whatever.

And finally my niece Elise made me this picture when I was back home in January. It kills me because she has made me brown wearing a purple bathing suit. I look like a Wookie. I love it.

Heart & a New Table and Chairs

Went to see Heart 2 weeks ago. It was a great concert. Got to meet Ann&Nancy!

Got my PEI plate. I can officially drive very bad now, like the rest of the Islanders. Seriously, I have never seen any place drive like they do on the island.

And finally, through the wonderfulness of Kijjiji--I got a table and chairs for the apartment, which ParisFrances has already christened by sleeping on the table.
Tomorrow night--Goo Goo Dolls concert! Get to meet the band!

A Quiet Weekend

I went for a walk on Saturday with my college buddy Laura. She works here with the CBC so we got together, went for a walk in Victoria park, (right along the harbour--the water was like a sheet of glass) and then we went for lunch. It was nice to catch up.

I spent a lot of time cleaning this weekend. I also am trying to set up appointments to see the people I want to see when I come home next weekend.

Something I have noticed about Islanders. They are so nice--and yet they don't realize by being nice they are breaking the law. Constantly when driving, people stop traffic while they are driving to let someone turn. So say I am going down University Ave, suddenly buddy in front of me will stop to let someone on one of the streets that cross turn either left or right. This happens all the time! And its crazy. Some stupid woman almost got hit today making illegal left turn into traffic because the guy in front of me stopped to let her turn. It's very hard to explain...but it happens so much here, and no one in Ontario does that. 1. Because they don't give a crap 2. Because it is illegal!

What's Been Going On

-Since Christmas, I have thrown out the Christmas tree
-gained 2-3 pounds, and now have to lose 1 1/2 pounds
-January is supposed to be quiet in radio-NOT HERE!
-I've been to see a show of 3 East Coast artists (Megan Blanchard, Katie McGarry, &Catherine McLelland) that was mixed with a pie competition. Did not eat pie. Enjoyed watching the artists.
-Have decided I am going to Newfoundland in June for a trip. Very excited.
- I have been curling. Just when I think I am getting better, I suck. When I think I suck I have a good rock throw. I don't know the terms, I barely know the rules, but I don't care.
- I go home next week. Looking forward to seeing family and friends.
- I am reading a book called 45 Things You Do that Drive your boss crazy. So far a lot of my staff have done about 80 per cent of the book.
-odd thing about PEI. Every Monday since the week before Christmas there has been some sort of storm. Only on Mondays.

Snow!

This is my first day on air in Charlottetown on a snowy day. It hasn't been that bad as far as volume of phone calls due to it being a holiday. I did have one drunk guy swearing at me because I wasn't the normal morning guy and why should the morning guy get holidays when he's so lazy? I told him to have a nice day and hung up. The snow this morning in downtown Charlottetown looked pretty on the trees that were lit up.

Now it's raining and slushy and not so pretty. Oh well. I have good boots. Last night I went for a really long walk, it was actually warm out. I didn't sleep well though. Having bad dreams that involved cockroaches. The bf says I have been watching too much Billy the Exterminator. I did learn from Billy that mascara is made with bat crap. Yes bat crap that has been processed but it's still bat crap. Going to do some shopping today at the sales, and supper is already made (leftover turkey) so it should be a good quiet night!

Boxing Day

The streets of Charlottetown are bare this morning. Except for this guy who got pulled over right in front of the K-ROCK studios. lol. I feel exceptionally happy today, very grateful for family and good friends who make my life so good. I look at some of the people who walk the streets of Charlottetown who have next to nothing, and I realize I am so fortunate.

Christmas on the Beach in Cavendish

The waves were bigger than me! It was breathtaking and made me feel very, very small.

ParisFrances Gets Stoned for the First Time

Last night for Christmas Eve, we went for a walk and just enjoyed other peoples Christmas lights.

Much like the Miley Cyrus Salvia bong video, I am sure that this too will be a viral video soon. ParisFrances has been given catnip before but this was the first time it had any affect/effect?(which one) on her.

Anyways, after opening my stocking which contained chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate, lottery tickets and travel magazines..the cat was given her "stuff" and she went nuts and has been sleeping ever since.

I got some rock and roll books, Cherie Currie's biography, Joan Jett's biography, and not rock star, but still equally as cool, Russell Brands Booky Wook II. I also got lovely gift certificates for Boxing Day shopping (which by the way in PEI is not on Boxing Day it's the day after because of the no Sunday shopping rule) I also got a beautiful, beautiful robe.

We are just about to depart for a walk in the snow on the Cavendish Beach. First time walking on the beach of the ocean on Christmas Day. Full turkey dinner after that.

Food&Warmth

Last night I attended the 6th Annual Food and Warmth show, it is a fundraiser for the soup kitchen and foodbank. Great show, a lot of local bands put on this benefit concert and it was 3 1/2 hours of good music. My favourites..... Megan Blanchard.
Molly Rankin. Yes, of the Rankin's of Cape Breton. She is amazing. Milks&Rectangles. Wierd band name. Awesome singer, there sound is very late 70's British punk mixed with early 80's British rock. So needless to say, after being at concert until the LATE hour of 11:30, jeez I am getting old, but I did work all day...anyways I am pooped.
So it's Christmas Eve, I'm at work, and I am enjoying the quiet. Going to have pizza tonight. Also going to watch Bad Santa. Tomorrow morning I am up early to put weather on the station, and then it's home to open gifts. Also planning on spending Christmas day with a walk on the beach. I've never been on the beach of the ocean on Christmas Day! Another first. Merry Christmas.

Visiting Olivia & Mittentime 2010

This is Olivia and I in the Athens restaurant in Halifax. Olivia is my former co-op student from Simcoe, and she is doing so well travelling Canada with the group Katimivick. So Olivia and I went out and ate way too much at the great Greek restaurant Athens, and then we went and sat in Starbucks and had hot chocolate. Well I had hot chocolate, Olivia had chai tea.
Last night I went to see "Mittentime 2010" A bunch of Maritime artists
Tanya Davis, Brooke Miller, Catherine MacLellan, Daniel Ledwell, Jenn Grant, Kinley Dowling, Patrick Ledwell & Rose Cousins all performed. Patrick Ledwell the stan up comedian had everyone roaring with laughter, he is so funny.

Tonight, it is the 6th annual Food and Warmth Show. It is to support the Upper Room with food donations and clothing. I'll tell you more about that tomorrow. Hopefully!

ParisFrances has super strong catnip as a gift, and all she does is get a whiff of it and she acts insane...so get ready for a video of crazed cat on catnip Christmas day.

Christmas Stuff

I've been really busy (I know I know, along with everyone else) Was sad to hear Mrs. High passed away yesterday. She was a wonderful mother to her three girls, and I know Julie will be devestated.

With half of my staff taking off home for Christmas, I'll be working my butt off until the end of the year. Luckily, I will be spending a lot of time in studio, so that means I will take some photos on time off and get writing on here.

Charlottetown Santa Claus Parade

It's that time of year when those of us who work in radio get in line for Santa Claus parades. Last night was the Charlottetown Santa Claus parade. I along with a few of the other staff members walked the route along side our huge float. It was about 5km. Our float looked great with a lot of kids, people, and it was hauling our station vehicle.

It was pretty impressive. There were thousands of people lined up along the streets.

Yesterday I also helped out with the K-ROCK Equipment Drive for Kids. We are trying to get as much sports equipment donated as we can for kids who otherwise may not be able to play hockey and other sports. We got about 8 bags full of stuff.

Today is a laundry day/clean apt day. I'm also going to the gym. And I have curling tonight.

Sitting with the Big Guys

This is the NEWCAP headquarters in Dartmouth. Nice building. Nice view of the harbor from the board room. Very nice people work there. Seriously. Everyone is happy. You can tell they love their jobs.

The drive home was a mess. It snowed all through Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Nothing I wasn't used to driving in, but it still made for a longer trip home and I was tired.

I forgot to write that on Saturday night the bf and I went to see Tanya Davis. She is an excellent Canadian performer, who had a youtube video that have over 2 million hits. She is a singer (originally from Summerside PEI) that has an unforgettable voice. Check out this poem she wrote, and then they made a video of it.

I know its all deep and stuff, but it's true.

Dartmouth

I had a beautiful drive to Dartmouth today. While I was driving over the Confederation Bridge, the waves were 5ft waves, the sun was out, and at the same time there was snowsqualls.

I saw a bald eagle while driving through Nova Scotia. When I got to the hotel, I immediatly headed for the pool and hot tub. Verrrrry nice.

Now I am off to dinner. Possibly may hit hot tub again. lol. I love the hot tub.

The Snow is Here

People complain about snow here in Prince Edward Island, they complain in Ontario, and pretty much anywhere it snows. I am one of the rare people who love the snow. It's beautiful. Here is the K-ROCK studio, decorated for Christmas.

This is downtown Charlottetown, in the snow.

And finally, the first time I have ever seen the ocean when it is snowing.
