Charlottetown

It was a warm beautiful day in Charlottetown today. Faye(the hillarious, warm, wonderful receptionist/traffic coordinator for KROCK) told me to go up on the roof of the Atlantic Technology Centre. She had spent her lunch hour up there, and said it was just fantastic, with a great view. I didn't stay up there very long, but she was right, it was sunny, warm and very quiet up on the roof. I haven't been able to take much of a lunch, there is too much work to be done, plus I am on air from 10a-2p.

After work, I went to a place to eat that my co-worker told me about. It is believed to be the best Thai place on the island. I had never had Thai food, so I thought, what the heck, last night I had Lebonese food, why not try Thai. There is no name on the restaurant, which is just an old house turned into a restaurant. Amanda my co-worker told me that they call the place "open" since it just has an open sign. I do believe they have added another sign since Amanda went there. There is 6 tables inside, 2 tables outside. It's all mismatched chairs and tables, and the smell of Thai food cooking made my mouth water. It smells amazing. I got the chicken pad thai, and it was amazing. I ordered it medium spicey and wow! It was spicey. It was delicious. The place is clean and the owners are Thai and are very nice. They also promote tourism in Thailand, they have all kinds of flyers in the restaurant for Thailand.

I then went for a walk down to the waterfront, the area where Regis&Kelly will be, and I believe the big concert with Matt Mays', Bachman Turner, and Great Big Sea. It's rumoured Russel Crowe may also be in town because he is friends with the lead singer of Great Big Sea. (They were in Robin Hood together) The locals are a bit grumpy though, the stage is set up in a park and it is all fenced off.

I watched jelly fish floating around in the harbour, and then I walked through some of the shops. After walking down a couple of streets I hadn't been down before, I stopped at a Timothy's for a tea, and a band, called the North Lakes ( www.myspace.com/thenorthlakes) were playing. They were good. I told them to drop a cd off at the radio station, because we have a show that is all East Coast music.

It was a nice night, and now I am just hanging out with Paris Frances in the hotel room. I go to the apartment tomorrow to unpack all of my stuff. It's going to be a nice day, so I am looking forward to it.

Everyone keeps asking me if I am homesick, and I really haven't had time to be homesick. It has been a week. I miss my best friend the most. Other than that, I can honestly say that I am without a doubt -happy, and I know I made the right decision! No regrets!

First Day on K-ROCK 105.5

The first photo is the new board I had to learn, and the automation system is touch screen--which is cool--unless you spit when you talk. Yes, your spit could result in one song halfway through playing, spit on the screen accidently and bam it cuts off the song and plays whatever your spit hits. Now that is sensitive! The second photo is my new office. Everything is glass!

Today brought me back to when I was 20 and starting out at CHNR in Simcoe. I went on air today for the first time at KROCK, and I was only nervous during my first break. The rest of it went ok. I am exhausted tonight from it though. My brain is just plain tired. On top of going on air, I also had all of my stuff delivered to the apartment. So this weekend will be spent making my new home a home. I think I am going to take a nap now. :) To all of my Ontario friends, I will play some ACDC "You Shook Me" tomorrow at noon since you had the earthquake today.

Jogging In Victoria Park

I am telling you there is nothing better than the smell of the ocean. No candle can duplicate that smell, it makes me want to run faster and further.

I went for a jog tonight in the same area as I did last night. The start of Victoria Park takes you by the Lieutenant's Governor of Canada's house in Charlottetown. They only give tours during July &August, the rest of the time it is a private residence.

The board walk in Victoria Park is excellent for running, they also have a seperate bike path, and you can see lighthouses all along the inlet. I thought about my sister who also runs as I was jogging along. She would absoluetly love it.

I talked to my islander friend last night, she told me that everyone will be my best friend in the summer because they want to visit this beautiful province in the summer. As soon as the winter hits--you have no more friends. Lol.

I had an interview with Broadcast Dialogue Magazine today. They are just doing a tiny little bit about my move from radio in Simcoe to radio in Charlottetown. Ingrid asked me why would you want to move to Charlottetown? I told her to look at my blog. I mean, just look at these pictures! And you can't even smell the sea air, if you could, you would want to be here too.

First Day At K-ROCK 105.5

First day at the new job!

-I filled out a billion forms

-Learned the phone system

-Learned to schedule music on musicmaster

-Realized I have A LOT of work to do.

-Laughed at the hillarious receptionist/traffic co-ordinator Faye. She is wonderful

- Scheduled music for K-ROCK and managed

to somehow screw it up royally when linking

it with the commercials, it's 6:05 and I am

waiting for the other Program Director

to come in. ( he is also the IT guy) They say it may not be my fault, however I probably wrecked it!

- I had a lobster burger and fries.

-Program Director Corey is here now to fix it, and he doesn't think I wrecked it.

-Ok it is offical, I did not wreck it.

- I went for a jog after work. Should have brought the camera, will do that tomorrow night.

-Here is Paris Frances overlooking the city. I realized the windows in the hotel open, so she gets to watch everything and get some fresh air.

Got to See My New Apartment!

This morning I awoke with Paris Frances sleeping on a pillow right by my face. I think she likes this hotel life. I unpacked all of my stuff, ate a protein bar, and went over to my new workplace- KROCK 105.5. The building is beautiful to say the least. I will take photos for you. Anyways, I met Amanda, a wonderful person who showed me how to use the computer system that they use. So after asking a million questions, I sat in my new office, which is also very nice. I just have to make it my own. After that, I did some shopping, and went to my new apartment. I LOVE IT! When you sit on the deck you can see the North River. (it is a 5 minute walk away) There is a screen door so Paris Frances can look out at the trees and the birds. Each apartment has it's own individual storage area, and the kitchen is suitable (it is a bit small) but who cares it looks nice. I will still be able to make my cheesecakes. :0 So the best part of this place, besides the deck, a huge master bedroom, a completely renovated bathroom, is just 5 minutes down the road is the Queen Elizabeth Park. There is a baseball field, soccer field, tennis courts, :) a little beach and a gazebo. I love the red sand! I love the smell of the Atlantic. I am a much happier person today!

Things I Have Learned In the Last 24 Hours

-PEI beef is VERY good.

-PEI mussels are VERY, VERY good.

-A hair elastic is a neccesity in PEI due to windy conditions. Long hair like mine is a hazard while walking, as suddenly the wind whips up and I am blinded by hair.

-Drivers in Charlottetown are extremely courteous to pedestrians

-Taxi cab drivers in Charlottetown are bloody hillarious. The guy who picked me up, picked up another guy and they made a pit stop at the liquor store so they could drink after the cabbie was done. :) These guys were hillarious.

- I love my new workplace. I am looking forward to getting started.

-There is only 5% tax on clothing! Wicked!!!!

The Trip So Far...

I have finally arrived to my new home. The cat is still alive, albeit a little drowsy.

I'm a bit overwhelmed still from leaving the town I have lived in for most my life and from all of the traveling. With that being said, I thrive on food, so I made my way down to the water and had a burger at the Charlottetown Yacht Club (left)
